It was a great weekend for Kate Keller and the Benedictine Softball team. Not only did 12-year head coach Keller get her 300th win, but also a conference title to end the regular season. After having their 20-game win streak broken by Aurora University, the Lady Eagles were hungry for revenge and wanted the NAC Conference title.
If there was any hope for a Northern Athletics Conference Tournament appearance, it was shattered this past weekend as the Benedictine University baseball team dropped consecutive doubleheaders to Concordia University Chicago and Aurora University. Coming into Saturday's double-dip with CUC, the Eagles were tied for fourth place in the NAC standings.
Benedictine will be busy this summer with two major construction projects on the Lisle campus; a parking garage and the ongoing renovations of the Rice Center. With a sports complex that is nationally ranked among Division III schools, Benedictine's Rice Center has fallen under the radar.
The Benedictine University men's and women's track and field teams will be competing in the Northern Athletics Conference Outdoor Championships on May 7-8 in Milwaukee, Wisc. "We have been working hard all season for the Outdoor Championships," said sophomore Nick McCord.
The intramural basketball season began its 10-team playoff this past Sunday night with a slew of games to narrow the field down to four teams for the Championship round on Wednesday. The four teams that advanced to play tomorrow night are the 420's, the Onions, Judith and the Quails and Fun N' Gun.
Every series in the Eastern Conference went as expected when it came to who should win. There were some series that raised some concerns. It was surprising to see the Milwaukee Bucks take the talented Atlanta Hawks to seven games. Not taking anything away from the Bucks, but the Hawks are too talented and experienced to struggle with the Bucks.
