On Thursday, Feb. 25, the Literature Department held a Poetry Slam that allowed the many talented and artistic students on campus to share their work. Not only did the event feature current students, but also featured alumni and students from other universities which only added to the diversity of works that evening.

On Friday, Feb. 26, the alumni were invited back to reflect on the progress that was achieved and on the work of those who started this evolution. This event is formally referred to as the Annual Benedictine University College of Science Alumni Reunion.

Study Abroad in China Due to Benedictine's growing partnerships in China, the University has been offered by The People's Republic of China a full scholarship for a BU student for one academic year study in China or for two students for one semester. Details are still emerging but the scholarship includes tuition, accommodations, medical insurance and a monthly living allowance.

About 60 Strip in Cold For Wildlife

NEW YORK, March 1 (UPI) -- Organizers of New York's "Naked" Polar Bear Cruise said about 60 people stripped down to next to nothing on a ship's deck for a wildlife charity.

The Polar Bear Club and Circle Line Cruises, which sponsored the event, said participants stripped down on the deck of a cruise ship Saturday on the Hudson River to collect donations for each minute they spent in the cold wearing nearly nothing, the New York Daily News reported Monday.

Man, 84, Awarded High School Diploma

FORT WORTH, Texas, March 1 (UPI) -- A Texas man who missed his senior year of high school to fight in World War II said he has finally received a diploma at the age of 84.

Orange Cunningham of Fort Worth said he was drafted into the army in 1944 and found himself too busy with family and work after returning to civilian life to finish his education, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported Monday.

On Thursday, Feb. 25, Chicago group, SoundRight, performed on the BU campus at the Spring 2010 Poetry Slam. The all female Muslim group formed in 2008 due to the lack of Muslim women in the performing arts and amazed audiences with their homemade instruments.

Sci-fi/Fantasy club sponsored February's "Star Wars" month. Each Wednesday in February the group met to watch the epic trilogy. The event was fun, and a nerd's delight. Benedictine men's and women's track teams wrapped up their indoor season Saturday, Feb. 27 at the Northern Athletics Conference Indoor Championships. The men's team finished third while the women came in seventh.

We're Getting Hosed on Clean Water

America's water is in jeopardy. After a controversial 2006 decision by the Supreme Court that restricted the Clean Water Act, the New York Times says that the EPA is finding it difficult to enforce laws on companies dumping waste into America's waterways.
